This was my second 10km
run and I was given a running chip. If I remembered correctly, the qualifying time was 2 hours 15 minutes for 10 km run. Kim, Grace and I left home at 5.15a.m. (picked up by Kim’s colleague,
Connie on the way) and arrived at the Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam at 5.50am. We parked
at the housing area near the venue and went straight to the event area and while
waiting for the run to start, we did light exercises as a warm-up.
Rinnie, Anne, Virginie
and I were quite near the front at the starting line. After running for 4.5km, we arrived
at our 1st water station. The organiser served mineral water. I
started to slow down as I felt a sudden chill. The more I ran, the colder I got.
I then began to walk as I was unable to run any more and was very disappointed in myself.
I continued to walk
fast, run a bit and I eventually came to the 2nd water station at 6.5km. There
were portable toilets but I refused to use them as I thought I could still
complete the run without going.
I remembered passing by
a fire station and I wanted to ask those firemen standing outside to allow me
to use their toilet but didn’t dare to do so.
Along, the run, there
were guys and girls cheering us, asking us to run. One of the guy in tutu even
handed out candy. Even though I was suffering, I decided to pop one into my
mouth.
Upon reaching 8km and
the 3rd water station, I really had to go to the toilet. I wasn't
sure, which one was clean, so decided to choose the middle toilet and surprisingly
it was clean. I was inside the toilet for approximately 10 minutes and I know,
I had wasted precious time.
I came out from the
toilet and I knew I had to catch up. I was able to run again and finished it. On the way to the finishing line, the firemen that were at the side sprayed water
at all the runners to give us a boost. The official time for me was 1 hour
42 minutes and 22 seconds. It wasn’t my personal best and I knew I was able to
run better. Later I was informed by Kim that the actual run was 10.5km and not
10 km!!!! Holy S#*t!!!
Upon arrival, we were
given an isotonic drink and asked to queue for our medals. After collecting
our medals we had to queue again to pick up our goody bag. Rinnie and Anne saw
me and I told them what happened to me and they saw my goose bumps. I was still shivering a little bit and not feeling that good.
I went to the side of
the main stage and I saw my Milo van. I went and queued up for 2 cups of Milo. There
were so many stores selling their merchandise but I wasn’t particularly keen to
look at them.

I did not see the bananas there....... |
Before leaving the
place, I went and collect my bread.
Of course there were prizes
for the runners (cash prizes for top 3 runners of each categories) and lucky
draw prizes. I did not sit around to listen for my number to be called and
decided to leave.

After drinking, resting and
photo sessions, we left at 8.40am.
It was a straight run and I could have run well. Perhaps, better
luck next time. I must say, it’s a very well organised run.
