Atria Makan Fun Run 2017

  • 8 October 2017
  • Atria Shopping Gallery
  • Flagged off at:-
7.30 a.m. for 5km
  • Price – RM74.00 for twin (early bird) for 5km
  • Running Kit – T-shirt and registration bib
  • Goodies – Medal and vouchers. Along the run, runners will picked-up drinks, jellies, etc

I did not join this run as it clashed with the BMW Wheelcorp Premium Charity Run 2017. My sister-in-law, Kim joined this run with my little girl, Salaree and it was her 1st 5km run.

Salaree came home as a happy girl and started showing off her medal and ate all her snacks. The vouchers were given by the merchants from Atria and some vouchers can only be used on the run day and vouchers can only be used at merchants’ Atria outlets.

As I wasn’t there to run and witness the events, the pictures below said it all:-

Petronas Orchid Run & Ride 2017

  • 24 September 2017
  • KLCC
  • Flagged off at:-
6.45 a.m. for 12km
7.10a.m. for 5km
  • Price – RM55.00
  • Race Pack – T-shirt, vouchers and registration bib
  • Goodies – Medal, poncho, drawstring bag, breakfast cereals, buns, cookies, pen, stationery set, orchid

My last run was in April 2017. I know, it has been a long time. I’ve been missing in action and I’m finally back…….

I decided to join this run since it was organised by Petronas. Last year, I saw that my friend received lots of goodies from the run. However, this year was disappointing.

It all started with collecting the running kit. The counters were opened at 11am and I was there at 11.14am. We queued for 1 hour 10 minutes before I managed to pick up my T-shirt and registration bib. There goes 1 hour of my public holiday (Awal Muharram). We were hoping that the run will be great instead.

Check out the queue
I arrived at 6.45am and started to queue at the starting line. I saw a runner dressed up in a Storm Trooper outfit and thereafter we were joined by Valtteri Bottas, the F1 driver for Petronas Mercedes! I was right behind him and the storm trooper and was hoping that they will turn around so that I can get better pictures of them. Unfortunately not…….

Only managed to get Valtteri Bottas's back

Up Close personal with Valtteri Bottas

Valteri Bottas flagged us off at 7.10am. We ran around KLCC, Pavillion, Prince Court Medical Center, Desa Kudalari condominium, Jalan Ampang and back to KLCC. At Prince Court Medical Center, we had staff from Prince Court, a band at Jalan Kia Peng and cheerleaders at Ampang LRT station to cheer for the runners. There was 1 water station at Desa Kudalari condominium and a portable toilet.

Upon arrival at the finishing line, we were give a stalk of orchid and proceeded further to collect our goodie bags.

We also watched performances by Psycusix and Youth Orchestra.

Ghostbusters Slime Night Run 2016

  • Price – RM55
  • Race Pack – Black T-Shirt, voucher to Sunway Lagoon (20% off normal ticket price), black drawstring bag, registration bib, folio water bottle
  • Goodies – Ghostbusters medal, mineral water, slurpee, lucky dip upon finishing the run
Steve and I left home at 6.00p.m. and arrived at Sunway Pyramid parking lot at 6.40p.m. We had time to go to The Loaf for some snacks before the run.

Check out the crowds
Prior to the run, the runners were being entertained by the deejays.  There were free slurpees, Ghostbusters sticker tattoos, Zumba and a flash mob to the theme song Ghostbusters.

Flash Mob

Tattoo

We were flagged off at 8.00 p.m. sharp. The route was around the Sunway factories and shoplots. The road has lots of pot holes so you really needed to be careful when you ran. Also, certain areas were pretty smelly and that will make you run faster. At one stop there were some Ghostbusters, and you can stop to take a picture with them.

There was 1 water station, serving only mineral water. After the water station, we had to go through an arch where the crew threw green powder in the air and at us. I got some green powder on me, and I must say it’s difficult to get rid of. You really need to scrub it off.

Green powder

Thereafter, we passed through loud music, leading us to a tent where there were ghosts to greet and scare us.
Upon arriving at the finishing line, we were asked to dive into the slime pool. Steve dived into the slime pool (without taking off his running shoes) and I went inside, holding to the sides of the inflated pool (and took off my running shoes).

Slime pool

Steve ran all the way from beginning till the end and finished at less than 25 minutes, perhaps top 10. I managed to finish it in 45 minutes. Steve checked and he said we ran about 5.4km.

When we arrived at the finishing point, we were given our medal and mineral water. You can help yourself to a green slurpee and start queuing for your lucky dip. The lucky dip was not that exciting. Steve got a free ticket to TGV and I got a slimming voucher (OMG).

It’s worth it for the money we paid and the organiser did a good job to entertain the runners.  We thought it was going to be rubbish but it was a good run.

Lunar New Year Run 2016 - 17 January 2016

  • 17 December 2016
  • Taman Botani Shah Alam
  • Flagged off at 7.00a.m. for 10 km and 7.15a.m. for 5 km
  • My category – 5km
  • Price – RM55.00 and handling fee of RM6.00
  • Race Pack – Yellow T-Shirt, registration tag
  • Goodies – Medal, certificate and Ang Pow packets upon finishing the run
I left home at 5.30am and arrived at the parking lot of Taman Botani (entrance RM3.00) at 6.00am sharp and managed to find a nice parking spot in front of the entrance to the run.

My friend Fong Lee Wee was already there and we chatted while waiting for Virginie and Yeoh Sun Wei to arrive with my race pack. Both of them arrived at 7.00am by which time the car park  was already full, so they had to park their cars far away at the entrance of Taman Botani.

We were flagged off at 7.15pm sharp and as always there was a human traffic jam at the beginning of the run. A lot of people decided to walk up the hill, while I decided to overtake them. Everyone got shocked when we came to an extremely steep hill and there was no way you could run up. I was just walking and even that caused pain in my calf muscles. When it came to a downhill, I decided to run again. I recall there was not only 1 steep hill, but in total there were 3 steep hills but the 1st steep hill was the killer. There was only 1 water station and the organiser served mineral water but there were  no portable toilets. However, there are public toilets at Taman Botani.

While running, there are nice greeneries and a small lake. When we arrived at the finishing point, we were given our medal and certificate. You can help yourself to a bottle of mineral water, banana and watermelon at the finishing tent.

There were games and a lucky draw but I decided to leave as I need to go back and shower and teach ballet.

It was worth it for the money we paid and the organiser did a good job.
