CRE – Malaysia Debut of Gravity Defying Flying Pole Acrobatics - 29 Sept to 1 Oct 2017

It was recently held at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center from 29 September to 30 October 2017, a total of 4 performances. This production was presented by one of Asia’s largest new circus troupes, Viva Circus, Psycusix and Creative Event Solution (CES).

When we hear the word “Circus”, we always think of circuses involving animals. Well, new modern circus does not involve animals at all. Everything is performed by humans; e.g. aerial acts like hoop, silk, net, trapeze, strap, pole and flying pole.

I was part of this production and we practiced weekdays and every weekend for a month before the production. So what is the story of Cre all about?

Planet V, 173 light years away. The Goddess Atanua brought light to the day and water to nurture the land. She created a race of living beings, each with a purpose of their own….

Except for one – Cre

Cre was born different from everyone else. He does not know his abilities, his destiny or his identity. So Cre decides to embark on a journey of self-discovery. Little did he know, a dark power was following closely behind….

We were then brought to each Chapter of the performance, starting with:-

Chapter 1 – AIR (The gateway of wonder that sculpts the eternal fates of all living beings. This is where our story begins)

For this chapter, it involves aerial silk. A flying silk performed by Miko and rainbow group silks performed by my friends. The stage was so colourful for the Air scene.

Chapter 2 – WATER (The second realm. A world with a vast, unknown depth and many secrets)

It involves trapeze and net. Other than the 2 aerial items, there was a jellyfish dance, bubbles by Kapten BuehBossa, crystal ball performance and fibre flies.

Chapter 3 – EARTH (A tranquil land where the guardians of the forest and the Spirit Tree reside. Here, our hero seeks wisdom)

After the 15 minute intermission, a spirit tree came out to the stage and there was a contortion artist, aerial hoop, strap and cube performance. There were also wheel, LED and acro balance acts.

Chapter 4 - FIRE (The vessel of chaos arrives. The final battle begins)

In the last chapter, there was a pole and flying pole act and the best of all, FIRE performances on stage.

Lang Tengah Island, 3 days 2 nights from 16 June – 18 June 2017

Viva Vertical used to always organise annual company trips for their pole leaders to Redang island. This year, they decided to invite their students for a “Viva Summer Retreat” at Lang Tengah. Instead of just playing at the beach, they decided to have pole and aerial jamming, beach workouts and a burlesque workshop. They had to transport the hoop, silk and poles to this retreat.

We flew early in the morning from Subang airport to Kuala Terengganu (45 minutes journey) and some students flew a day earlier, as we were informed that we need to be at the Kuala Terengganu airport by 9a.m. When we arrived, we were met by our guide from Summer Bay Resort and were taken to our bus. Our bus ride to Merang jetty was about 40 minutes.

Upon arrival at the jetty, Summer Bay Resort had a booth and we were instructed to pass our luggage to the staff, to be put into our boat. At the jetty, we were also provided with complimentary coffee, tea, water, biscuits and bread from Summer Bay Resort while waiting for our boat.

Details about the resort and other charges:

Beach

The beach is very beautiful; a white sand beach with crystal clear water. You can even see small fishes and sometime a big fish from the beach. A lot of people decided to snorkel and play around at the beach.  There were no sharp pebbles and broken coral and the beach is private for Summer Bay Resort customers as the other resorts are situated a distance away.

Room

My roommate and myself were given a family room, 2 queen sized bed, on the 1st floor facing the pool. Inside the room, it looked new and spacious and there was a TV, towels, shampoo, showel gel, air-cond, water heater shower facility and big bottle of mineral water (refillable).

Wi-Fi

The resort does not provide wi-fi at all. Please make sure that you either have Celcom or Maxis 4G as it works better.

Convenience Store

If you forgotten to bring your bikini, swimsuit, hat, sun cream lotion, sanitary pads, not too worry. This convenience store will sell the things you need for your stay.

Food and Beverages at the resort restaurant

It’s a buffet style for food and beverages. The resort will provide breakfast, lunch, tea-time and dinner.

The resort mostly serves rice, noodles, and spaghetti with a variety of Chinese dishes. If you are a vegetarian, not to worry a there are many vegetarian dishes to choose from. There is bound to be something you can find to eat even if you are a fussy eater.

Also, the quality of the food is quite good (just like our coffee shop “chap fun”) and I couldn’t ask for more.

If you need drinks and snacks, you can always head to the snack counters (near the reception) and help yourself to coffee (and also durian coffee), tea and biscuits.

Mamak Place

Feeling hungry after dinner? Fancy for some supper? Not to worry, there is a mamak place for you to eat at. Just right in front of the resort.

Staff

The staff are quite friendly and approachable. Upon arrival, we were given a cold towel and welcome drink and there was a briefing by the staff about the resort. Everything was conducted in a professional manner.

As for snorkeling, since we came in a group, we had our own boat to bring us to the places nearby to see fishes. We did not go places that are far away like Redang island, which is included for other customers if the customers stay 4 days 3 nights package at the said resort. Bread will be provided for you to throw and attract more fishes to come to you when you snorkel.
