(Brought back our decorated cookies)
This was my 1st
time attending a royal icing decorating cookies course. Flower, leaves and vase
shaped cookies were all prepared for us on the table.
We were given the recipe
on how to bake the cookies and how to prepare royal icing. Once royal icing is
done, to colour it and ensure that it is sufficiently liquidy. After that, the
royal icing was poured into plastic piping and we used rubber bands to tie it at
the top. We needed to ensure that the royal icing must have spaced to move
around.
We were given samples of
lines and shapes to practice prior to trying it on our cookies. So, cut a tiny tip off from the piping,
gently squeeze and bring the icing upwards and drag it across the line.
We were taught/informed
about:-
(a) drawing the border of the cookies
(b) how
to hold the piping
-line
must be in the middle
(c) squeezing
the royal icing and using the needle to even it and “shake” gently
-to
squeeze a lot of icing when colouring (to create puffiness)
-shaking
it gently to ensure that royal icing is also even out and smooth
(d) how
to do wet on wet
-
1 layer of royal icing and prior letting it dry, another layer (different
colour) of royal icing is being squeezed onto the wet royal icing
-also,
to use the needle to make both colours blend in
After all cookies were
coloured, once it’s dry, we stacked the cookies to make it into a flower decoration.
It was a very
interesting lesson and I enjoyed it. Too bad, I can’t eat many of the cookies
as it was super duper sweet, but Steve and Salaree helped me to finish them.
