Renewal of NRIC - 15 October 2015

My parents and I woke up early to renew our NRIC. We drove to the National Registration Department at Sri Rampai but were informed that it was closed down last year. Silly me for not checking or calling them before going there (I was thinking that there will be less queue, just like the renewal of passport at the Immigration department at Sri Rampai).

Hence, my parents and I decided to go to the National Registration Department at Sri Hartamas (“NRD Hartamas”) instead.

The main building
Please take note of this sign.
Parking at the NRD Hartamas was full when we arrived at 9.50pm. You can no longer park at the slope heading to the entrance gate of the NRD Hartamas as cars will be towed. We were quite lucky to get a parking spot near the main entrance to the building when someone decided to leave.

We arrived at the NRD Hartamas counter at 10 a.m. My parents took their respective numbers for senior citizens (which only had 1 person in front of the queue) and I had to take the number for the normal queue. The officer at the counter said no need to fill up any forms.

The senior citizens queue was extremely fast. My dad went to the counter, passed his current NRIC, the officer checked his details on her computer screen, confirmed the home address, took his right and left thumb prints and his picture on the spot, he made the payment of RM10.00 and was issued an official receipt and a temporary paper NRIC (at which point my dad had already surrendered his current NRIC to the officer). It was written on the official receipt that your new NRIC will be ready at lunch time, around 1.35pm. The whole process only took about 10 minutes. How’s that sound?

Please note that if you are there wearing a T-shirt, the officer will ask you to put on a blazer prior to the photo session.

As for the normal queue, the officers called my number after 30 minutes and I went through the same process as my dad. In the event you need to change your home address, the officer told me that you need to fill up a form for it and the said officer will then key in the new address into the system. As for me, everything remained the same and so the process was pretty quick. It was also written on the official receipt that my new NRIC will be ready at 1.40 pm.

After the process finished at the counter, you can rate for their services by pressing the button on the right, ranging from “Poor” to “Excellent”. I rated “Excellent” for the officer’s services rendered to me.

At 2pm., we arrived at the NRD Hartamas again to collect our new NRIC. Again, we had to take numbers; different numbers for senior citizens and citizens. In just less than a minute, my dad’s number was called and he’s at the collecting counter to collect his new NRIC. He was asked to verify and confirm the details on the new NRIC. Upon verification and confirmation, he was asked to sign the acknowledgement receipt that he has collected his NRIC. The same process goes for citizens. Collection of the NRIC only takes about 10 minutes!!

So, in summary:-
·                     Bring yourself and your current NRIC only
·                     Take your number and wait to be called
·                     Once at the counter, listen to the officer’s instructions
