The entrance |
We were here last year for Mother’s Day
and this year’s Mother’s Day we decided to celebrate at the same restaurant
again, Nyonya restaurant.
If I remember correctly, this
restaurant has been around since the 80s and has always been located on the same row as Sri
Siam restaurant.
This place serves a wide selection of
Nyonya food. Check out the menu below:-
We ordered their signature dishes, which have been our all-time favorites:-
* You will be served with peanuts as an appetizer- RM4.00 for a small plate.
Ikan Gulai Tumis RM43.50 (small). This is one of my favourites, it’s spicy assam fish with pineapples, lady’s fingers and topped with mint leaves. There is no santan in the curry and I simply love it. I could just drink the curry of its own. But bear in mind, your tummy will feel hot and spicy after that.
Ence Kabin Chicken RM40.00 (large) – Juicy, tender chicken fried to perfection. Everybody will love this and it's suitable for kids.
Sayur Paku RM16.50 (small) – This is one
of my favourite vegetable dishes. Sayur Paku is crunchy and cooked in “belacan”
chili paste. There is a sauce and it’s spicy. The spiciness is similar to
Ikan Gulai Tumis.
Beef Rendang RM22.70 (small) – The beef is cooked to perfection and the meat is soft and not chewy at all. The rending sauce covers the beef entirely. It’s just a bit spicy.
Kerabu Mango RM16.50 (small) – Raw mango sliced with peanuts and sweet and spicy sauce. Beware of “cili padi” that is chopped very small and mixed together with the sliced mango.
Ice Kacang RM5.40 – Since there was no more water chestnut, we had to settle for Ice Kacang instead. The Ice Kacang was very normal, shaved ice with gula Melaka, condensed milk, cendol, grass jelly, pink jelly, beans and corn.
The service in this restaurant was fast.
Perhaps some of their signature dishes may have already been pre-cooked. The
price of the dishes is reasonable, depending on the size of the dishes
that you order, i.e. small, medium or large. Please take note that if you order
a small dish, it is really small and perhaps sufficient for 3-4 persons, unless
you order a few small dishes to sample their wide spread of Nyonya food.
Sometimes, if you are lucky, there will be “Nyonya kuih” as well. Just go to
the cashier and you will be able to see their selection of Nyonya kuih at the
transparent glass cabinet.
The ambiance of the restaurant is simple and pleasant. There is parking in front of the restaurant but
since there are a few restaurants on the same row, the spaces may be taken up
quickly during lunch and dinner time.
Other services offered will be their baby
full moon gift pack. I ordered the baby full moon gift pack from them and I must
say, it was done very well and was reasonably priced and my guests loved their Nasi
Kunyit and Curry Chicken. I ordered the gift pack A. They have the following
packages:-
Full Moon Gift
Pack A – RM8.90
1 Bowl Fragrant Nasi Kunyit
2 pieces of Nyonya Curry Chicken
2 pieces of Angkoo Kuih
2 Red Eggs
1 Packet of Pickled Ginger
Full Moon Gift
Pack B – RM13.50
1 Bowl Fragrant Nasi Kunyit
4 pieces of Nyonya Curry Chicken
4 pieces of Angkoo Kuih
2 Red Eggs
1 Packet of Pickled Ginger
Full Moon Gift
Pack C – RM17.50
1 Bowl Fragrant Nasi Kunyit
6 pieces of Nyonya Curry Chicken
4 pieces of Angkoo Kuih
4 Red Eggs
1 Packet of Pickled Ginger
Their Nyonya specialty dishes are
definitely a thumbs up and we will definitely come back again.
