I had heard so much about Dolly Dim Sum, I decided to give it a try. This dim sum restaurant is halal and therefore pork-free and the premises is shared with Fresca Mexican Kitchen. Both
restaurants are owned by the same owner and the owner decided to divide the
place to accommodate 2 restaurants.
If you are expecting the waiter/
waitress to come by your table to serve a selection of dim sum, just like any
other Chinese restaurants, you will be disappointed. You will have to place your own order on the provided menu slip by ticking what you want.
Once you are done, you pass it to the
waiter/waitress and they will go to the cashier to key in your order. We
ordered the following:
The congee also known as porridge was
very ordinary. It was just ½ a century egg and a slice of chicken meat, mixed with
the porridge together with slices of ginger.
The price you pay for this Prawn Chee
Cheong Fun is on the high end. However, each sliced of the chee cheong fun
contains prawn. It’s not like the one you have at the hawker’s store where
sometimes there aren’t any prawns to be found.
This was available only during the
festive Chinese New Year and there was nothing to shout about for the fried
chicken wings, which came on top of sliced lettuce.
The service in this restaurant was fast
and the price range for the dim sum is on the high side compared to your local
dim sum joints.
The ambience of the restaurant is nice
with so many bird cages hanging on the ceiling. If you are having lunch, the
restaurant’s window allows natural sun light to flow in. Parking is not a
problem at Avenue K.
