Tanjung Bunga Restaurant - 30 January 2016

This Nyonya restaurant has been around for quite some time at “Chow Yang” but my friends and I just discovered this place to have our “lou sang” gathering to usher in the year of the Monkey.

Siew Hua made the booking as she had to pre-book the “yee sang”. The restaurant only served jelly fish and no salmon for its “yee sang” dish. Somehow, I don’t think I tasted any of the jelly fishes at all!!

Yee Sang with jellyfish. Where's the jellyfish? RM58.00

This place serves a variety of Nyonya food and we ordered their specialties, i.e. Inchi Cabin chicken, Sayur Paku, Coffee Ribs, Assam Prawns and Curry Fish Head.

Curry Fish Head (medium) RM49.00.
This dish is spicy and the curry is very rich, thick and “lemak” creamy and is cooked together with brinjals, lady’s fingers and cabbage, just how you want your “Assam Fish Head” to be cooked.

Coffee Ribs (medium) RM25.00
There was a coffee smell when this dish was served on our table but when you eat it, I felt there wasn’t any coffee taste. The meat was tender and coated with dark sweet sauce.

Sayur Paku (medium) RM25.00
This is one of my favourite dishes. Sayur Paku was crunchy and cooked in a spicy sweet sauce. I was “drinking” the sauce.

Inchi Cabin Chicken (medium) RM20.00

Juicy, tender fried chicken to perfection. The kids just loved it.

Assam Prawns (small) RM29.00
The prawns were fresh but I didn’t taste the assam at all. Perhaps, my mouth was already full of the curry taste.

Minced Meat Taufu (medium) RM15.00
We also ordered the Minced Meat Taufu (medium), especially for the kids but somehow this dish was not very appealing to the adults. Also, the red ruby water chestnut dessert, which was just alright.

Red Ruby dessert RM4.00
The service in this restaurant is fast, even though it was very busy. Most of their customers were families and extended families. The price range for the dishes is reasonable, depending on the size of the dishes that you order, i.e. small, medium or large.

The ambience of the restaurant is a simple setting and pleasant. You need to go there early for dinner as parking may be a problem. There are too many restaurants at “Chow Yang” and of course, the parking bays nearer to the restaurants will be taken up quickly, unless you don’t mind walking, then you can park at the housing area nearby.

Their Nyonya specialty dishes are definitely a thumbs-up and we will definitely come back again.

The Midwest Griller - 1 February 2016

This restaurant just opened about a month ago. It is very near my parents’ place and my dad suggested that we should go and try it out one day.

Initially, we wanted to go to O.S coffee shop at Paramount but we were unable to find parking, even at the Giant supermarket parking lot. It was full and closed for lunch time, so we decided to turn back and head for this place.

As we entered the restaurant, I was like “OMG”, we are going to be the only customer during lunch time at 1.00pm!!

This place served wraps, puffs, pizzas and one selection each of grill chicken, lamb and beef. You can order either a la carte or a set meal, which consist of drinks and side order.

Their menu

We ordered the following set meals:-

Grilled Chicken Cheese Wrap Set (comes with coleslaw, potato chips and a canned drink) - RM16.00

Lamb Wrap Set (comes with coleslaw, potato chips and a canned drink) - RM17.00

Grilled Chicken Puff Set (comes with coleslaw, potato chips and a canned drink) - RM13.00

After we ordered the food, there were 2 other customers that walked in to dine. The service in this restaurant is fast; perhaps because we were the only customers at that time. The price range for the food is reasonable but not for pizzas.

The ambience of the restaurant is a simple setting and pleasant, with new tables and chairs. Parking is not a problem at all.

The restaurant
Overall, the food is alright but nothing to shout about.
