Hong Kong, 5 days 4 nights from 2 June – 6 June 2016

Salaree had been pestering us of wanting to go to Disneyland, so I invited Suet May and family to come along, and they said yes. We got a very good deal on Malindo Air and each adult paid RM597.90 (inclusive all the taxes) for a return ticket and RM529.90 for each child. These were the best deals we could get. Cathay Pacific was about RM1,200 and Air Asia was about RM750.

This was our itinerary during our stay in Hong Kong:-

Day 1

Upon arrival at the airport, we took the shuttle bus directly to Novotel, Nathan Road, Kowloon. One way ticket for both families was HK$780. HK$390 per family.

The moment we arrived at our hotel room, I bathed Salaree immediately as she vomited at the KLIA boarding lounge. Then we were ready to roam around Nathan Road.

We walked towards Temple Street night market. What’s so special about this market? Nothing really! It’s very similar to our Petaling Street night market. Things that they sell, fake watches; kids clothing, bags, watches; thumb drive; fans; key chains. Suet May and I were pretty fascinated with the luggage tags and we bought a few of those tags. 1 tag only cost HK$5. Certain stalls are selling for HK$10, so you need to find the stalls that sell at HK$5. I bought Hello Kitty, My Melody, Elsa (HK$10), My Little Pony, Minnie Mouse and Peppa Pig for Salaree. Also, Uncle Pat bought her a purple Frozen watch and coin purse.

We decided to have our dinner there as well. We ordered some “Chow Mein”, which I like it very much, fried rice (pretty plain), goose and pork and local beer of course. The whole meal was about HK$750 for 4 adults and 2 kids. Not so cheap for street food! After food, we adjourned to 7-11 (which was right opposite our hotel for some snacks). I managed to try Fanta Pineapple and instantly fell in love with that drink. After 7-11, its bed time in our hotel room.

Day 2

Woke up early for our breakfast at 8am as we need to go to Disneyland at 10am, i.e. the opening time.
Big Breakfast- luncheon meat
We were guided by Suet May and Patrick. Jordan MTR was the nearest station. So bought our tickets; Jordan to Sunny Bay.

Although when we stopped at Sunny Bay, we had to take another train to Disney Resort from there. When we arrived at Disney station, we had to top up the difference in order for us to exit.

Day 3

We were extremely tired from the Disney trip. We woke up late for breakfast and decided to do some shopping in an air-condition premium outlet shopping mall, Citygate outlets. It was window shopping for me, checked out their after sale prices and after conversion my Malaysia Boleh-land still cheaper! For example, my Adidas Ultra Boost shoes were the same price as in Hong Kong. Uncle Pat spent quite a long time - approximately 1 hour - at Timberland, trying to find 5 items to buy to get further discounts. In the end, Steve helped out by buying 2 Timberland T-shirts.

We had our lunch there at their food court and bought some Peppa Pig merchandise, for which the price was quite reasonable.

After spending a few hours at Citigate outlets, we decided to leave and head back to our hotel. We rested for about 15 – 30 minutes and we were off again and this time to the Ladies Market.

As it was a weekend, Argyle Street was closed to vehicles and there were street performances and people setting up stalls. It was a super busy street. We walked past Argyle Street to find our way to the Ladies Market.

Ladies Market was actually bigger than Temple Street market. Here, you will find more things to see and buy. However, the prices are higher than Temple Street. For example, the luggage tag that I bought from Temple Street only cost HK$5 but in Ladies Market, it was HK$10-20. Most stalls were selling for HK$20. Even Frozen panties were more expensive than our Malaysia “pasar malam”.

We ended up buying a Frozen school bag (HK$100) and a Frozen digital watch for Salaree, 2 Frozen towels and a fan (for which the 2 fathers did not even bargain the price).

We were looking for restaurants but it was not easy to find restaurants there as most of the restaurants are located on the 1st or 2nd floor of the buildings.
The streets of HK
We decided to find a local café and we found one, hidden from the main streets, where the locals eat. As it was crowded, we were ushered to a table, which was directly in front of the toilet. We were lucky that there were no smells coming from the toilet.

The price was pretty cheap but the food and drinks were not up to our standard, or should I say, local dishes with local price. By just looking at the menu, it was not appetizing at all but we needed a drink badly and Steve was sweating carrying Salaree around. All in, we paid local price of HK$380 for all meals.

So check out the food:-

Food not so yummy
We promised Salaree to go to Starbucks and we ended up at a Starbucks near our hotel. Suet May was doing research and decided to book our tickets to Noah’s Ark. It was either go there by MTR or bus. Suet May managed to find a good deal by going to Noah’s Ark official website; if you pre-book, you get free bus rides to Noah’s Ark. So, we decided to try our luck then.

Again, we ended up in the 7-11 store to grab some spaghetti and hotdogs from the fridge and heat up in the microwave provided. The hotdogs were even yummier than the local food we had.

Day 4

After the whole day shopping yesterday, it was our last day in Hong Kong. After breakfast, we were off again to Jordan MTR station and were searching for Moko mall (we stopped at Prince Edward station), where we need to collect our tickets at the reception inside Moko mall.

Suet May and I managed to find it in the end and we were handed our tickets and our free bus rides to Noah’s Ark. While waiting for the bus ride, we treated ourselves to egg tarts. Super duper yummylicious! I chose the rich and creamy chocolate flavor egg tart and it was about HK$20 for one tart.
Delicious tarts

We took the bus and it was a pleasant 20 minutes journey to Noah’s Ark. The price was HK$168 for adult and HK$138 for children.
The entrance
When we arrived, we took pictures and more pictures and more pictures. It was the outdoor animal replicas and thereafter, we went inside the Ark. A professional photographer took our family photo.

Inside the Ark, there were live tortoises and we were ushered to watch a short clip of Noah’s Ark. I didn’t know anything about Noah’s Ark so it was a good educational tour for me. To know and find out more about Noah’s Ark, go to:

After the show, we just walked around. There wasn’t much to see and the tickets were pretty pricey! We just bought a family picture.

After that, the kids were playing in the playground. This is where Suet May, Uncle Pat and I got the worst bites ever from the biting midges. Damn you stupid insects! Suet May killed one of the tiny creatures (they're called biting midges) and there was blood; those damn insect biting and sucking our blood.

Noah's playground
We didn’t think of anything as it was not itchy at all at the time. We left Noah’s Ark after about 2 ½ hours there.
We were undecided whether to go to Snoopy World (a very small park) or not. In the bus, on our way back to Moko Mall, all of us were dozing off. When we reached Moko Mall, we decided no Snoppy World then as it was too far to travel.

We decided on eating dim sum instead. Suet May google and managed to find a Michelin rated dim sum restaurant, within 5 minutes walking distance from Moko Mall.

When we reached the dim sum restaurant, we had to queue for a table as the restaurant was quite small. We were given the menu and were asked to place our order.

Here come the dim sum pictures:

Queue loh if you want to eat good dim sum

After dim sum, we went to Keng Wah bakery, where Suet May and Uncle Pat wanted to buy local biscuits for relatives back home. We dropped by the hotel to put all our stuff in the rooms and headed back to Temple Street to buy last minutes souvenirs. We were still quite full from our dim sum, so we decided to walk to a local dessert shop. We passed by prostitutes and sex toy stalls along our way. This dessert shop is also nearby the jade street market.

After dessert, we walked back to our hotel. We were not sure whether to eat our dinner or supper. While watching TV, Uncle Pat surprised us with goose meat rice (take away from the nearby Michelin Chinese restaurant). It was quite good and the meat was really juicy and tender. However, one thing was lacking, no chilies.

Day 5

When we woke up it was pouring outside. Luckily, we had no plans for that day as we were packing our stuff to head to the airport. Our airport shuttle van came early to pick us up. On our way to the airport, it was still raining heavily.

After dropping off our baggage as we had already checked in online, we proceeded to the duty free shops and we were searching for more Disney merchandise. Again, we bought a few more things for the kids, i.e. things that we could not find at the Disney stores in Hong Kong Disneyland. I was basically following Salaree around, choosing the toys and things she wanted.

We had a quick bite of our sandwiches before boarding. So there you go, our 5 days 4 nights Hong Kong adventure.
