Restoran Kader (Banana Leaf Rice) – 21 September 2017

Entrance to the restaurant

I used to go to this restaurant quite often years back. Recently, my colleagues and myself decided to come here to have our banana leaf rice. This restaurant is situated along the busy street of Leboh Ampang. This restaurant occupies the ground and 1st floor of the shoplot. Downstairs of the restaurant is always busy and so we decided to go upstairs instead.

The dishes and curries for you to choose

Downstairs of the restaurant

Upstairs of the restaurant
The service of this restaurant is pretty slow and the waiters are not really enthusiastic to welcome or serve you. We were waiting at our table and the waiters took so long just to clear the previous customers’ banana leaves and empty dishes. After we sat down, it took them easily another 10 minutes before they took our orders. We were very annoyed by then.

Our food came much later as they needed to go downstairs to pick up our dishes. The waiters were reluctant to serve us and we had to call for them to give us what we wanted, and then only we were served.

Apart from the above, please take note of the following:-

Check out the dirty tissues
Please wipe your banana leaf clean. Although they have washed it, do not assume that it’s clean. Please see the dirty tissues.

Do not expect them to pour curry onto your rice. Please do it yourself.

Chicken dish

Mutton dish
We ordered the chicken and mutton curry. The chicken was not that tender and we were given mostly bones. The mutton was cooked, but still had a strong mutton smell and a watery curry.

The price was alright. I paid RM14 for a rice meal, with chicken and mutton and 1 sirap drink. It’s not a place I would like to go to again. There are other restaurants that serve better food and will give you better service.

I was told that this is Indian Boli sweet flatbread

The restaurants also sells Indian sweets

Restoran Karai Kudi Ganesan Mess (Banana Leaf Rice) – 8 September 2017

Such a long name for a banana leaf restaurant. Also, it was not really easy to find this restaurant as there are so many along the busy street of Leboh Ampang. This restaurant is on the 1st floor of an Indian prayer shop. Once you see the sign, you need to walk up to the 1st floor and you will see a crowded restaurant. We were fortunate that we were able to find a table and seats during their busy lunch hour.

Entrance to the restaurant. Just walk up
You sit down and let the waiters know what you want, i.e. banana leaf, white rice, Indian rice or Biryani rice. If you choose banana leaf, they will place a banana leaf in front of you, scoop out 3 types of assorted vegetables, Indian/ white/biryani rice and a poppadum, with complimentary water or you can order your own drinks at a reasonable price.

Inside the restaurant. As you can see, not many tables and chairs

Then, they will bring the chicken or fish curries to you and serve you small dishes of meat, fish and eggs. All you need to do is choose your plates.

Choose your plates

I decided to order chicken and omelet. I was also given complimentary Rasam.

My meal, 3 sides vegetable dishes, 1 chicken and 1 omelet

Rasam

Poppadum. Normally you will only be given 1. If you want more, you need to request.

Dried chillies ( you need to request for these) if you need your food to be spicier

The whole meal together with syrup only cost me RM13.00 and it’s so worthwhile, with tasty Indian food that managed to fill my hungry tummy.

A waiter will come over to your table and give you the bill. He will assess what you have ordered.

After your meal, bring your bill to the cashier and make payment

The service in this restaurant was good and fast. Waiters are quite attentive.

I suggest that if you want to come to this restaurant, don't drive. Just take the LRT and stop at Masjid Jamek, exit from the station and walk towards McDonalds. After McDonalds, you will come to a T-junction, turn left and continue walking until you see the name of the restaurant.

King of the King Durian Pahang, Section 19 – 23 August 2017

In PJ, apart from SS2 stalls selling durian, another area where durian is sold is at Section 19. So if you think that you can get cheaper durians in a not so commercialised area like Section 19, think AGAIN.

Check out the type of durians and prices here:

If you compared these prices with those at the SS2 durian stalls, the prices of the durians at this stall is slightly higher. A comparison for your convenience:-

This stall offers a durian buffet at RM40 for each person. As to the choice of durians that they give you, I’m not sure about it. Obviously, if you know them well enough, they may serve you with Musang King!

Only 1 stall is available here and it is not as huge as SS2 Durians. Since the stall is at a corner, they have placed tables and chairs for their customers. Cold water from a dispenser is provided and you can order coconut juice at RM5.

Please take note that there are no toilets. However, wash basins are provided for you to wash your hands after eating. You can park your car illegally in front of the stalls or in the proper parking lots behind the stalls.

Overall, after making comparison of these two durian stalls in PJ, I would choose to go back to SS2 Durians.

Restoran Siu Siu Sungai Besi – 19 August 2017

Outside the car park, heading towards the entrance

Entrance to the restaurant

Since I wanted to eat crabs for my belated birthday celebration, we decided on this restaurant based on good reviews on social media. It did not disappoint us at all and we made the right choice.

Please call the restaurant to find out whether they have crabs or not for the day of your dinner and book the crabs in advance. Sometimes, they may not have a supply if you decide to just drop in.

We ordered:-

Salted Egg Yolk Crab RM76.00. Normal dish, but the crabs are fresh.

Sweet and Sour Crab RM72.00. Also, very normal dish, we did not order the buns to dip into the gravy.

Barbecued Pork RM39.00. Tasty with thick sauce.

Roast Duck (1/2 portion) RM30.00. This is their specialty dish, the meat was tender.

Stir fry romaine lettuce with fermented bean curb (Yau Mak Fu Yue) RM20.00. A very simple dish yet with tasty fresh lettuce.

Chinese Fried Rice RM26.00. The normal fried rice with egg, carrot, long beans and chicken meat.

Coconut RM5.00
Carlsberg RM17.00 for big bottle
Chinese Tea (1 teapot) RM5.00

Overall, the food was tasty good and the price was reasonable. We paid RM393.25 (inclusive of GST) for 4 adults and 2 kids. The service in this restaurant was fast. There was ample parking outside the restaurant as this restaurant is situated in a hidden area, off Jalan Sungai Besi. You may miss the turning if you don’t see the sign properly. There were parking attendants there to guide you in parking. Also, there were couple of stray dogs guarding the restaurants day and night but they are harmless.

Other than the food, the restaurant has its own garden and it's very nice place for you to take pictures.

Salaree is 5 – 15 August 2017

This cake (after member's discount) cost around RM280.00 from Moonlight Cake House

Salaree requested for a My Little Pony theme party to be held at her Chim kindy on 15th August 2017.

I decided to order a My Little Pony chocolate fudge cake from Moonlight Cake House again since they provided me with very good service the year before. I ordered the cake about 1 month before and picked up the cake from Moonlight Cake House at Setapak.

I called Moonlight Cake House, Setapak branch on the afternoon of 14th August 2017 to ensure that the cake has arrived and they said yes. We picked it up at 10pm and had our dinner there.

We arrived at the kindy at 9.40am, just before their snack time at 9.45am. This year we only had the cake and 20 party packs; 12 for girls and 8 for boys. The items for the party packs, are from Lolli Angels and I purposely chose a My Little Pony themed pencil case, stickers and colouring book. As for the boys, it was Paw Petrol pencil case, PJ Masks stickers and colouring book.

Salaree’s friends stood up and sang Happy Birthday, in English and Mandarin for her. After that, Salaree blew the candles and cut her cake. Her friends love the cake so much and some of them had 3 rounds of cake. So happy that they finished the cake and I don’t need to bring it back.
