Botanica Deli – 26 July 2017

There are 2 entrances. This is the entrance from the building itself

We brought our little girl for a commercial casting at Kudos Studio and little did we expect that it was so crowded and we were expected to wait for hours before our little girl’s turn. So we decided to head down for a simple lunch.

All you need to do is pick your meal from the menu on the board at the counter; order and pick up your order when the meal is ready. For salads, you will be asked to go to the salad bar to choose your salad and dressing.

You can also pick set meals as below:-

We ordered:-

Turkey Cranberry Sandwich RM21.00. Huge chunk of turkey in between big pieces of thick bread with lettuce, tomatoes with melted cheese and cranberry sauce. Once you bite, the fillings will come out. The meat was dry and tough.

Roast Chicken Sandwich RM21.00. Lots of sliced chicken in between big pieces of thick bread also with lettuce, tomatoes with lots of melted cheese.

The portion was huge and it’s best to share with another person if you are not a big sandwich eater.

Oreo Donut and Americano RM10.00. The large donut was covered with chocolate and my kid just loved the chocolate coating and the donut bun was soft too.

The cafĂ© is bright and spacious. The service in this cafe is fast, however the price is on the high end. It caters more for people who are working there.

You can easily park your car inside the building.

Korean BBQ San Nae Deul – 22 July 2017

Entrance to the restaurant

Korean BBQ can be considered expensive if you were to dine at Solaris, Duta Hartamas and Ampang.

We decided to google and find a reasonably priced restaurant and decided to try the Korean BBQ San Nae Deul at Nexus to celebrate Stephen’s birthday. It’s eat all you can for 1 ½ hours, the time you are seated!!

The price was:

(Prices above inclusive of GST and exclusive of service charge of 10%).
Please pay before you eat:
It's at the entrance and you won't miss it.

If you want to order beer, they have Korean beer and other local beer. We ordered big bottles of Tiger beer, which cost RM25 per bottle (inclusive of GST and exclusive of service charge of 10%).

We were given a menu to choose the kind of marinated meat (chicken, pork, beef and lamb) that you want; order the meat and BBQ yourself.

Our selection of meat

This is how we BBQ the meat:

As for the side dishes (Bachan), you name it; Kimchi soups, fried chicken, pancakes and bibimbap (mixed rice), you will be able to obtain it from the counter. There are lots of varieties to choose from and you just need to pick and choose and put it onto your plate and bowl.

There were also drinks, i.e. orange juice, mango juice and green tea. Ice-cream is also available but I didn’t try it. The kids tried but did not finish it and I assume it was not nice for them.

Please take note of the conditions posted onto their walls:-

Once your time is up, the waiters are very efficient and will appear without warning and whisk away all your food and dishes away and clean the table to cater for next guests waiting.

The ambiance of the restaurant is pretty simple with lots of greens but there was barely any air con and we were sweating a lot by the time we left.

There is ample parking in the building but if you want to park for free, you can park at the side of the road of the building (which is always busy).

Overall, for the price you pay for, it’s a good bargain and we will definitely come back for more.

Moonlight Cake House – 15 July 2017

Last year, I ordered a themed cake for my little girl’s 4th birthday party. The catalogue for cakes and the ordering online was super convenient. The cake tasted good too as we ordered chocolate fudge and the price was reasonable too, compared to most home bakers.

RM233.20 for 1 kg

This year, we have decided to order a themed cake again for my little girl’s 5th birthday party, with the same flavor, chocolate fudge.

RM296.80 for 1 kg (picture from their website)
The actual birthday cake

When we ordered the themed cake last year, we knew that they had a restaurant serving food, but didn’t have the chance to try it.

Now they have opened a new branch at Setapak where on the ground floor you buy your bakery products and cakes, and on the first floor you dine.

It was a full house on a Saturday night and we had to wait for a table, just over 5 minutes. We were ushered to our table and menus and an order chit were already prepared for us. I was surprised to see so many choices of food, Western, Italian and Asian.

We ordered the following:-

Tomato soup with seafood RM18.90. The tomato soup was very creamy and there were 3 big prawns, reasonable number of squids and 2 mussels with garlic. It was very tasty and I will definitely order this appetizer again.

Smoked Salmon Salad RM19.90. There was green and purple lettuce with sliced cherry tomatoes, which was pretty simple. The dressing was vinaigrette. Salmon was served separately and you just need to add it on to your salad. The salmon was fresh. However, I felt that the dressing was not enough and not to my liking.

BBQ Chicken Chop Sandwich RM15.70. The portion of the burger was big. It comes with sides; potato wedges and salad. The chicken patty was juicy and nicely marinated and the buns are big.

Fish Ball Spaghetti RM14.60 (kids’ meal). There were a variety of kids’ meals and my little girl chose this. Simple spaghetti bolognaise (no meat), tasty fish balls, coleslaw, Yakult drink and 2 marshmallows. Overall, this meal is good and healthy for kids.

Ice Orange juice and Ice Apple juice RM9.00 each. Normal juice….

Other dishes that we tried on different occasions:

Chicken Roll RM15.50. There are only 6 pieces of the rolls. Basically it's just chicken mean rolled up, accompany by lettuce, sliced brinjal and sliced cherry tomatoes. The dressing was the Japanese sesame.

Bamboo Charcoal Homemade Chicken RM18.90. Quite a reasonable portion. The chicken patty is nice with caramelized onions, topped with black peppered sauce. However, the potato was hard. The coleslaw was ordinary.

Mushroom Soup in French Puff RM14.90. There were shiitake and shimeji mushrooms, garlic, and asparagus stick. Soup was very creamy and nice. Once you have finished the soup, you may not want to eat the puff anymore as it was soggy from inside. Outside is still alright but you would have filled your tummy!

Bamboo Charcoal Beef Burger RM23.90. Juicy beef patty with lettuce, gherkin, coleslaw and potato.
All Day Breakfast RM15.90. There will be bread, chicken sausages, smoked duck, scrambled eggs , potatoes and cherry tomatoes with lettuce. This dish is very basic.

Lemonade Mango  RM11.90. There are other flavours to choose from, such as lemon.

Fish Meehoon Soup RM15.50. The taste is similar to Fish Head noodle soup, i.e. milky white broth. For me, the soup is not thick enough and sadly, there are bones in the fish. I do not recommend this dish for small kids.

Venus RM14.90. A very expensive drink but it tasted nice.

The cafe is halal and the service in this restaurant was fast even though it was busy and there were so many waiters and waitresses around to serve you. They are very efficient as well. Upon payment, if you are a member of Moonlight (download the app and follow instructions therein), please present your member code to get 5% discount for food and beverages.

The ambience of the restaurant is simple setting and bright. However, it was noisy when we were there. There is ample parking in front of the bakery and alongside the main road.

Their buns, cakes, food and beverages are good and reasonably priced. We will come back again.
